After a five-year break from worship music, Cory Asbury is back, and his return is anything but quiet. The “Reckless Love” hitmaker has released “Outsing the Angels,” a defiant, full-power comeback single that doubles as the title track of his forthcoming album, slated for release Sept. 18, 2026.
The song is exactly what its title suggests: a holy dare. Asbury and the listener stake a claim that, while mortal voices may never match the heavenly chorus, they will spend every breath trying. It’s worship as rebellion against apathy, a sonic refusal to play it safe.
“We may not outsing the angels / But at least we’re gonna try / Let ’em hear our shouts from heaven / As we lift Your name up high”
Asbury describes the track as “a call to outlandish, unruly worship,” (from his social media). The single’s release closes the chapter on a season Asbury has been openly transparent about. In recent social media posts, he revealed he had spent the past five years stepping back from worship ministry, even nearly completing a country album before scrapping it entirely. Asbury has compared the season to the parable of the prodigal son, calling it a more honest version of the story that originally inspired “Reckless Love.”

The turning point, by Asbury’s own account, came through a candid conversation with fellow Air1 Christian artist Forrest Frank, whose direct words helped redirect him back to the calling he had walked away from. That redirection now takes the shape of a new album, a new tour and a renewed voice in the worship space.
Asbury will hit the road this summer alongside Forrest Frank, Tori Kelly and The Figs, with the trek kicking off June 1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. “Outsing the Angels” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
