Prayers for Finding Contentment in Singleness

Posted on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 by Pastoral Care Team

If you’re in a period of singleness and finding it difficult to be content, I’m right there with you. You aren’t alone. The beautiful news is that you are invited to work through all the ups and downs and everything you may be feeling with the help of the Holy Spirit. Whether it’s questioning whether God hears your prayers, wondering if He is with you, or just wrestling with the desire to be in a different season than where you are, here are a few prayers from Psalm 139 we can pray together as we navigate all of them.

O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me…You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. – Psalm 139:1,4 NLT

Lord, it’s comforting to know that You already know my thoughts. You know the deepest desires of my heart that no one else does. You know the moments I’ve had my hopes up and how much it hurt for them to be let down. You know the moments I’ve expected the worst and have been overjoyed with a different outcome. I give all these feelings to You, every excitement and every let down. Remind my soul that You see me, and You draw near to me, picking up every piece when I may need it. Thank You for being a Father who knows my heart. Amen.

You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! – Psalm 139:5-6 NLT

God, I need to be reminded that You go before me and You follow me, especially as I feel the weight of loneliness. I know that I’m never alone, but right now it’s hard to feel that it’s true. I ask for You to remind me of Your presence today. While I can’t quite wrap my mind around it, I know that it’s true. God, remind my heart and soul that You are enough, even when I begin to want more. I know there is beauty where you have me and that You have a purpose for the waiting. Amen.

If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there Your hand will guide me, and Your strength will support me. – Psalm 139:9-10 NLT

Lord, in every moment of the season that I’m in, I am grateful that Your Word tells me You are supporting me with Your strength. I need Your strength right now. Move in my heart to be reminded of Your Holy Spirit at work within me, empowering me with strength to make the most of every moment I have right now. Thank You for the gift of singleness, that I can dedicate every second to serving those around me, to serving You, and using my days for Your glory in a unique way. While things weigh on me, remind me that Your hand is guiding me in this season and Your strength is supporting me. Thank You for this. Amen.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. – Psalm 139:16 NLT

Heavenly Father, You know me and You made me. You’ve seen every moment that I will face. Nothing is a surprise to You, the God of all creation and the universe, so the way I feel right now isn’t a surprise to You either. Father, please remind me of the hope I have because I know the One who has authored my days. Remind me that You have ordered every detail of my life and that You are kind, so I can trust You’re at work right now, even in the waiting. Amen.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. – Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

God, as I wrestle with feelings, unmet expectations, and everything else I’m experiencing right now, will You sanctify me? Please make me look more like Jesus. Conform me to look more like the image of Your Son. Search me, God. Show me anything within myself that You don’t want there as You prepare me for what’s to come. Point out anything in me that offends You. Remove what needs to be removed. You have free reign to do what You need to do. Heal broken places, renew my mind, and revive my heart where I may need it. Let Your Spirit and Your Word create something new in me today and over this period I am in. I trust You. Amen.
