Album Spotlight: "Take It All Back" Tauren Wells

In between his “Joy in the Morning” LP and his next studio project, Tauren Wells is tiding fans over with a delightful four-track bundle titled “Take It All Back.” The brief set provides a glimpse into Wells’ ability to effortlessly jump genres and traverse bold sonic territory.

Staying mostly in the pop/R&B lane, the “Hills and Valleys” singer enlists a roster of fellow artists to help him deliver a slate of sure-fire hits on “Take It All Back.” Hip-hop act Davies and multigenerational band We The Kingdom lend an assist on the fiery title-cut, serving the devil a serious eviction notice with a chorus that’s as explosive as the epic collaboration itself. The opening entry is the star of the show with its one-two sonic punch and the power that’s uncovered when three very diverse artists unite for one scorching anthem.

Next up, celebrated Gospel music trailblazer Fred Hammond joins Wells on surprising slow jam “Breath Away,” which extols the majesty of our awe-inspiring Creator. Meanwhile, Wells finds a soulful duet partner in Katie Torwalt on “Seen,” which displays his penchant for straightforward R&B melodies on a song that reminds listeners they are fully known, seen and loved just as they are.

Closing cut “Crazy About You” offers a straight-up pop single that highlights God’s relentless affection toward His children. “There’s not a moment you’re not on His mind,” Wells passionately croons. “There’s no second-guessing His sacrifice. He has paid it all ten million times over and over.”

“I’m super excited about this brand-new EP,” Wells shared upon the collection’s release. “I got to work with some of my favorite people, and my hope is to empower you with the faith it takes to go get what God has promised you back! It’s time to call the angels down to receive your joy, family, and dreams.”

While the fresh selections that appear on “Take It All Back” vary thematically, the common thread seems to be community with “Crazy About You” being the only offering that finds Wells performing alone. The EP’s four originals were all co-written by Wells with lyrics revealing his pastoral heart — a trait that’s even more evident now that he’s preaching regularly at the Church of Whitestone, the church he established earlier this year alongside his wife in Austin, Texas.

The acclaimed singer/songwriter is slated to join Chris Tomlin on select U.S. dates of the “Holy Forever World Tour” this fall. Additionally, the father of four recently launched Season 3 of his popular “The High Note” podcast. The hitmaker’s initial interviews have featured Demi-Leigh Tebow and Elevation Worship’s Chris Brown with more compelling conversations to come.
