New Song Feature: "Hope Of The Ages" Cody Carnes

Cody Carnes offers a timeless retelling of the Gospel on “Hope of the Ages.” The bright, triumphant anthem is the second single from his sophomore live album, “Firm Foundation.” “Hope of the Ages” arrives at radio after the full-length project’s title-cut peaked at No. 1.

Carnes co-wrote the convicting declaration with Reuben Morgan. Backed by a choir of voices, initially captured at a live recording at The Belonging Co. in Nashville — Carnes’ home church — “Hope of the Ages” shines a light on the only things that will last: Jesus, His Word and His Church.

The Gospel of Jesus; it’s the hope of the ages. Burning brighter and brighter and standing forever. The Church He is building, nothing can stop it. It’s a city that’s shining a light in the darkness,” the lyrics proclaim.

The verses bring to mind Matthew 5:14-16: You are the light of the world — like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”

“Hope of the Ages” gives listeners an easy way to praise our Heavenly Father as it finds its power and truth in the death, resurrection and future coming of Christ.

Alongside his wife, Kari Jobe, Carnes has been leading “Hope of the Ages” and many of his other well-known songs around the world. Following an appearance at Passion 2024, the couple just wrapped a string of dates in Brazil. On Feb. 25, 2024, they will headline New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall, accompanied by a full choir and a live orchestra.
