Air1 artist Brandon Lake released an acoustic performance of a new, unreleased song titled "Why Would I" on Sept. 28, 2026, sharing the single-shot video on his YouTube channel. The worship leader behind "Gratitude" and "Hard Fought Hallelujah" digs in with lyrics about God's faithfulness across a lifetime, asking why he would ever stop loving or trusting a God who has always been by his side and never let him down.
So why release the song now? Lake's YouTube description explains his heart behind the sudden release of the performance: "This song has been on my heart lately, and even though I wasn't planning on sharing it yet, something in me felt like it was time. Praying it encourages you in whatever season you're walking through."
The Story Behind "Why Would I"
At its heart, "Why Would I" is a testimony song. Lake looks back on grace that met him morning and night, more second chances than he can count and a God who stays near whether he feels Him or not. The chorus works less like a challenge and more like a conclusion: after everything God has done, giving up on Him doesn't add up. It's a question worth asking yourself on the days your faith feels thin.
So why would I ever stop loving You?
Why would I ever stop trusting You?
Why would I ever give up?
I should know it by now
You won't let me down
The bridge is pure thanksgiving, with Lake marveling at how far God has brought him.

Where "Why Would I" Fits in Brandon Lake's Big Year
There's no official word yet on a studio version of "Why Would I." The song follows "King of Hearts - In the Room!," the live recording of his 2025/2026 "King of Hearts Tour”, released in June 2026. Lake has spent much of this year crossing genre lines, teaming with Lainey Wilson on "The Jesus I Know Now," Bailey Zimmerman on "Just Believe" and Nick Jonas on "The Author." "Why Would I" brings it back home: no feature, just Lake and a song about a God who has been faithful every step of the way.
