Brandon Lake shifts his point of view by focusing on God’s promises on new song “How Good God Is.” The buzzworthy original is already breaking records as the track becomes the first single to debut at No. 1 on the Mediabase Christian Impressions chart in the listing’s history. The award-winning artist penned the moving offering with Jonathan Smith, Emily Weisband and Derrick Southerland at a writing camp he hosted earlier this year that brought some of the Christian community’s finest songwriters together with some of the country genre’s brightest talent.
The vulnerable selection starts quietly before crescendoing into an honest, gritty anthem that finds Lake choosing to look at life’s difficulties as opportunities to experience new facets of the Lord’s character.
“If God has been anything to me in this life, it’s been GOOD. Even through every valley, storm, test and trial, I find that He is teaching me something and using it to make me a little more like Him,” the chart-topping musician shares. “If there’s one prayer I have for this song, it’s that it would get into the head, heart and hands of those who need a perspective shift in the middle of their own storm. And that no matter what you face, you can see that He really is THAT GOOD… I hope this is more than an enjoyable song. I hope it’s a weapon.”
Lake’s “weapon” of worship comes from an arsenal of new music the seasoned worship leader is preparing for what will be his highly anticipated fifth studio effort in partnership with a label. Previewing what’s to come, he previously released high-profile collaborations with Nick Jonas, Lainey Wilson, Bailey Zimmerman and Cody Johnson; and he’s teased additional duets with Dan + Shay and Thomas Rhett — all of which he captured during the aforementioned songwriting retreat in Nashville.
The South Carolina-bred singer premiered “How Good God Is” live for the first time in mid-August at South Bend, Indiana’s Boots on the Bend festival.
