What are you going through right now that requires you to trust God? What's going on in your life that you have no control over, or that you wish was going differently? What are you fearful about? In what way do you feel weak and helpless right now?
Let's make this very practical. To trust God is to take hold of God. It is to know, to believe, and to rest in God's Word and in God's care. That's what it means to trust Him. He is your Heavenly Father, and He can be trusted.
Our Father in Heaven
If you go to the gospel according to Matthew, you'll read the words of Jesus as He was teaching us how to pray. He said we are to begin our prayer this way: "Our Father in heaven." I've always thought it's interesting that when Jesus was teaching us how to pray, He said to begin our prayers to "Our Father in heaven," not God, not my dearest friend, not the Almighty One, even though all of those things are or could be true. Jesus said to begin our prayer with "Father," and that's because it reminds us that we are His children and God cares for us.
"You Are MY God"
Consider the second part of the psalm here. The declaration of one who trusts God is, "You are my God." The key word there is "my"—not just God, but He is my God. He is my Father. I have been adopted into His family. If you are a Christian, then He is your God and you can declare the same thing. He is your Heavenly Father.
If God is your Father, and if God is for you, then who can be against you? So, trust God in your struggles, whatever or wherever they may be. Trust, remember, know, and take hold of God. He is good. He loves you. He has plans that are better than your plans.
