Wild Heart: A 7-Day Devotional by Kim Walker-Smith - Day Three

Day 3 || Come Through

“We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!” - Ephesians 2:10 (TPT)

While singing and recording “Come Through”, there was a really beautiful, vulnerable moment of spontaneous worship. As I was singing the words to the chorus, “All I’ve ever known and all You’ve ever shown, is love that’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for me”, I suddenly felt overwhelmed by God’s kindness. I realized that there was a time in my life when I would not have been able to say those words.

 My parents divorced when I was four, I had three stepfathers after that, lived through abuse, and by the time I was a teenager, I was consumed with pain and anger. When I finally truly surrendered my life to Jesus, He led me on a journey to become whole, healed, and breaking free from the bondage and chains that bound me. In that process, I realized that a lot of my anger was aimed at God. I felt betrayed and abandoned. I had so many questions that I couldn’t seem to find the answers to. It was only when I chose God above my questions and fully released my heart to Him, was I able to see through new eyes. I suddenly saw how God had been there with me the whole time, through every moment of pain. I saw how justice, according to God, looked more like me being alive and aligning my heart with His, rather than revenge on those who had hurt me. I saw how God has used the pain of the past to create a strength and resiliency inside of me. I understand what redemption means and what it looks like. The new life that Jesus offers us is one that rewrites our story and takes the brokenness of the past and turns it around. The redeeming power of Jesus is what allows me to look back at my life and not just see pain but see my Heavenly Father who loves me and never left me through it all. He is the God who will come through for you. He will not fail you. His timing may not always be understood, but it is perfect!

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” - Ephesians 2:10
