New Song Feature: "More Like Jesus" One Voice Worship

Emerging collective One Voice Worship wants to look “More Like Jesus” on their debut single. The passionate plea is led by worship leader Canaan Baca and is featured on the Seattle-based group’s first full-length album, “The Table,” which released in September 2023.

Baca boldly begins the initial verse of “More Like Jesus” by commenting on the culturally accepted definition of freedom and modern society’s widespread spin on individual truth. He goes on to declare that true freedom and absolute truth can only be found in a life lived with and for Jesus. “I’ve been told to live my own truth, do whatever makes me feel good. Get rid of boundaries, the rules are stifling, chase good feelings, soon we’ll be gone,” he sings. “But I found myself more lost than ever. Enslaved and bound to my desires. And that’s not freedom.”

Backed by a choir of voices — courtesy of One Voice Worship — Baca then launches into a chorus that asks the Father to crucify his flesh and mold him into the image of His Son.

The piano-fueled song speaks to the truth of Galatians 5:24: “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.”

Furthermore, the pure, poetic anthem also encapsulates 2 Corinthians 3:17-18: “For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord — who is the Spirit — makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”

In a similar vein as labelmate Maverick City Music, One Voice Worship is an evolving group of diverse songwriters, artists and musicians from different ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures united by a common mission: to love God and to love people.
