Jon Reddick offers a song of surrender with “Holding On (Praise God).” The anthemic original finds the seasoned worship leader clinging to God for dear life only to realize divine hands have always been holding him. Backed by a gospel choir, Reddick delivers a dynamic performance that will comfort any weary soul attempting to carry things we were never built to bear in our own strength.
“This song is a reminder to lay down the burdens you were never meant to carry and trust the One who has been holding you all along,” Reddick shares. “My prayer is that it points you back to where your strength and help truly come from.”
Reddick penned the intense declaration with Matthew West and Jeff Pardo. A special live version of “Holding On (Praise God)” debuted as an Air1 Worship First ahead of the single’s release.
Alongside the taste of new music, Reddick unveiled an accompanying visual that possesses personal significance. A few days before he shot the video, his brother passed away. In the opening sequence, the chart-topping artist clutches his late brother’s dog tags as he creates a monument of remembrance by stacking stones.
Dedicated to both his recently lost sibling and his great-grandfather, who tragically passed away when Reddick’s own father was just an infant, the clip follows Reddick deep into the heart of the woods and the depths of the river as he lays down raw grief he can no longer carry alone. “I believe God can redeem every story,” he says of the intention behind the video, “even the hard ones to carry.”
The “No Fear” singer will no doubt add “Holding On (Praise God)” to his summer setlist as he hits the festival and fair circuit. Meanwhile, he’ll join select dates of CAIN’s “Live and In Worship Tour” this fall.
