New Song Feature: "Bless God" Brooke Ligertwood

Brooke Ligertwood admits the Bible is full of stories where God blesses His children. So it might seem counter-intuitive to sing a song about blessing the Giver of all good gifts. Yet, that’s exactly what her new single, “Bless God,” does. The passionate ballad extols the virtues of our Creator and gives us numerous ways to lift up the name of Jesus.

“Blessing and glorifying God is a pathway to the preciousness of His presence and the unspeakable riches and treasures of the joy therein,” Ligertwood contends. “We bless God because we’re made to. We bless God because we need to… We bless God because Scripture invites us to, encourages us to, and commands us to.”

Indeed, Psalm 148:1-5 calls us to express our admiration and gratitude to the Lord: “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being.”

Ligertwood wrote “Bless God” with Brandon Lake and Cody Carnes and recorded her own version of the track for her latest studio effort, “EIGHT,” an 11-song collection of both old and new favorites with the lauded lyricist reimagining some of her most popular selections.

A seasoned worship leader and veteran songwriter for the Church, Ligertwood has only recently embarked on a solo career showcasing her original worship music. The GRAMMY®-winning songstress, however, is no stranger to solo artistry. Long before audiences knew her for anthems like “Desert Song,” “What a Beautiful Name” and “Honey in the Rock,” Ligertwood was writing, recording and touring in support of her pop discography under her maiden name, Brooke Fraser. Her 2003 debut, “What To Do With Daylight,” is certified 7x Platinum in her native New Zealand, where she toured with both John Mayer and David Bowie. Additionally, her sophomore set, “Albertine” — written after a life-changing trip to Rwanda — is one of Ligertwood’s most celebrated releases to date.
