Faith Behind The Song: "Another One" Elevation Worship

“God, we need a miracle.”

I prayed those five words 50 days ago. It wasn’t the first moment that I’d prayed for a miracle. But, once again, I was desperate for God to move in a crisis moment for our family. We felt out of control, wondering if holding onto hope and working hard towards a giant goal was worth it. Through tears, panic attacks, and many late nights and long weekends, we kept doing what we could while praying for God to accomplish what we couldn’t.

When have you prayed for a miracle only God could work? Are you praying for one today?

If that five-word prayer has been on your lips recently, then add “Another One” by Elevation Worship to your playlist. Following up on themes from their hit song, “Do It Again,” Elevation Worship has released another song that invites us to trust in God’s faithfulness.

Like a musical version of Hebrews 11, “Another One” describes the faithfulness of God and the myriad of ways that God has powerfully moved in the lives of His people. Just as the writer of Hebrews did in the opening verses of chapter 12, Elevation Worship has written a song that inspired listeners to pray boldly.

In launching the song, Chris Brown of Elevation Worship shared the heart behind this song. “‘Another One’ is a prophetic song for anyone who’s been sowing, praying, and waiting on God. He has an abundance of ways to meet all of our needs, and He’s promised to work all things for our good. We hope this song inspires you to believe that miracles are still ahead for you and open doors are in front of you.”

The song draws on many verses from the Old and New Testaments. For instance, the first verse calls listeners to “fan the flame and keep it burning.” This line reminds me of the words Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:6-7 when he said, “This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Additionally, “Another One” invites us to trust God is working even when we don’t see it or our perception of a situation declares it devoid of God’s presence. This principle is illustrated in Isaiah 55 when the prophet speaks of how God works in circumstances differently than we would.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

The bridge of "Another One" functions as a Biblical highlight reel of God’s miraculous moments. From creating the sun and commanding its movement to calming storms on the sea to raising Lazarus from the dead and finally conquering the cross and the grave, Elevation Worship reminds listeners that God has a long track record of moving in miraculous power. The song ends with an invitation to trust that “another one is on the way.”

“Can we pray to God and ask for miracles?” If you wonder if God still works in miraculous ways, you are not the only one. Many people who read the stories mentioned in the song write them off as only for the times of the Bible. I certainly once believed that. That is until I experienced miracles and re-read the words of Scripture.

Ten years ago, over Easter weekend, our twins were 18 weeks in utero and the pregnancy nearly ended. When my wife left the hospital late on Easter, it was our own Resurrection moment. This year, on Good Friday, we held another miracle in our hands. It wasn’t a baby, but it was a milestone that my wife and I couldn’t have imagined six weeks prior.

In Romans 8:11, Paul wrote these words. “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you.”

If you’re praying for a miracle, I encourage you to listen to “Another One” today. May it inspire your hope and confidence in God’s power. May it remind you that God is not dead and His work is not done in your life!
