SEU Worship extends an invitation to the wayward child on their latest song, “A Forgiving God.” Inspired by the story of the Prodigal Son, found in Luke 15, the slow-burning ballad paints the picture of a loving Father ready and waiting for the lost soul to return home.

Listeners will, no doubt, take comfort in the message of the original offering, which reminds us no mistake is too big, no distance is too far and no heart is too broken because the Lord will eagerly and compassionately forgive a repentant spirit.

Helmed by the group’s Chelsea Plank and Ashton Hage, “A Forgiving God” is backed by urgent strings as it crescendos, amplifying the truth that no sin disqualifies us from the Father’s forgiveness. The bridge beautifully captures this sentiment as SEU Worship leads students in singing:

He’s been sitting on the porch
Awaiting your arrival
You never left His heart
He’s always thinking of you
He’ll come running out to meet you
And throw His arms around you
He’s a forgiving God

The soothing selection serves as the title cut of the Dove-nominated collective’s latest project, recorded live at Southeastern University in Florida. The intimate set features nine thoughtfully crafted tracks penned by a diverse group of creatives with personal connections to the school.

“‘A Forgiving God’ is a collection of songs shaped by the grace, nearness and love of God. Birthed from the sounds and moments of our campus community, it reflects what we experience in chapel week after week,” Plank shares of the album as a whole. “We’re grateful His ways are always better than ours.”

Uniquely comprised of students, alumni, faculty and staff from Southeastern University, SEU Worship continues to write, record and release music that resonates with the current generation and beyond.
