It’s no longer a secret that Brandon Lake is working on a country album. And after dropping songs with Cody Johnson (“When A Cowboy Prays”) and Bailey Zimmerman (“Just Believe”), the South Carolina native is bowing a collaboration with 16-time ACM Award winner Lainey Wilson titled “The Jesus I Know Now.”

The poignant original goes out to all the rebels and renegades who find themselves rediscovering a different kind of Jesus than the one they grew up hearing about. An honest conversation about this very subject led Lake and Wilson to write the steady mid-tempo selection. Together, the pair — who both grew up in church — confess their naive assumptions and their former preconceived notions about who God is, revealing the God they have a relationship with today is far more kind and forgiving than they could have ever imagined.

“So grateful to collaborate with an amazing, godly woman, Lainey Wilson. Beyond this song being one of my absolute favorites, this may have been my favorite vocal day ever. Lainey felt like family from day one,” Lake recently shared on Instagram. “This song is for anyone who’s ever had the wrong picture of Jesus. He’s full of grace, and He’s especially fond of the misfits. ‘The Jesus I Know Now,’ praying it meets you right where you are this Good Friday.”

Lake has plenty of new music on the way, as he’s recently written with a host of celebrated country acts and some of the genre’s leading lyricists, including Thomas Rhett, Dan + Shay and Tyler Hubbard, among others. “God’s been opening doors, and I believe every one of them is for the purpose of sharing the Gospel and reaching more people with truth,” Lake offers of what’s ahead. “There’s something powerful about Kingdom collaboration. My friend, John Maxwell, said it best: ‘Stay in the church, but never stop moving toward the lost.’”

The trailblazer is headlining his 50-city “King Of Hearts Tour” through the beginning of May, with special guests Pat Barrett and Franni Cash.
