When you think of father, what comes to your mind? For some it is a great relationship. They remember times being together or maybe playing ball, times together working in the yard. Or maybe just times fishing together, spending time together. For others, it can be a very difficult memory. A time where father wasn't there or when he was there, it was so difficult and hard.

Well, I grew up with a father in the home, but my father wasn't at home. He was in the home, but not at home. And when he was home, it was very, very difficult. I know my father loved me, but showing that love was so hard and so strained.

God's Promise as Our Father

Well, the Bible talks about God as our Father. In our Verse of the Day today, Second Corinthians chapter 6 and verse 18, the Bible says, and I will be your Father, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. This is a description of God as our Father.

You see, God has made a commitment to you and I that He will care for His children. You may have had an earthly father that provided much care for you, or maybe you had an earthly father that didn't. Well, the promise of God is that He will care for His children. He says, I will be your Father and you will be sons and daughters. What a great commitment. "I will be." That's a promise from God. "And you will be." That's another promise from God that He will never disown us. That we will always be His children.

So that term "will be." It's God affirming His covenant relationship with us. See, He will never disown us. Isn't that amazing? He will never disown us. He knows us very well. He knows all about us. And yet He still loves us.

The Lord Almighty

Now, this passage also says that it is the Lord Almighty who is saying this, the Lord Almighty. That means that He is all ruling, that He has absolute power. That He is sovereign. He is over all. He is omnipotent. He is the most powerful and He is a promise keeper to us.

You see God. He is the perfect Father. Now, there's no father on earth that's going to be perfect. We all have our faults, but God is the perfect Father. He loves you, and He's never going to walk away from you. And He always has your best interest in His plan for you.

So when you think of father, think of God as our Father, and I know that He will never, ever leave you nor disappoint you, for He loves you. And He gave His Son that you may have life and be called His children.
