God’s Thoughts and Ways

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

What if kids could make all the rules? Can you imagine what life would be like? How different it would be. I'm sure if you have kids or know kids, they would probably be saying no bedtime. Video games all day long. No schoolwork. Let's start off with dessert. Some may say only dessert and no real food.

Imagine what life would be like. Oh, and by the way, parents would always say yes and never say no. Imagine what life would be like. It would just be craziness. And the dynamic between children and parents would obviously significantly change. But parents would probably be thinking, goodness, all I want is for my kids to just trust me. Trust me, I know what's better for them. All of those rules that they would want to have, or the way they would want things to be. A parent knows better. Really, we know best.

God's Thoughts Are Higher

Well, it's interesting because we find in the verse of the day something very significantly comparable to that exact thing with God. And this is what He has to say. Isaiah chapter 55 and verse 8 says, My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, and My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

So here we are. Everything you could imagine. His thoughts are significantly higher. But imagine if we as God's children, His creation, we can tend to be similar to if kids were to make all the decisions. Imagine if in God's perfect wisdom, in His omniscience, His omnipotence. Imagine if in His realm, in the way He thinks with it being so much higher than ours. Imagine if His thoughts were similar to us as parents looking at our children making decisions and what they would want, and us to say, God, I just wish You would always say yes and never say no.

Trusting Through Difficult Seasons

I have seen that in my own life, where I have looked at things that are going on and it's like, Lord, why? Why are You doing this? Why are You allowing these things to happen? And I would see decisions that were being made that negatively impacted my family and myself. And these other things that were happening. It's like, Lord, why is this happening? I don't get this. Not realizing that if I would have done it my way and even through those difficult times.

This isn't just I want dessert all the time. This is really, really tragic, difficult seasons of life. But then I have watched as things have unfolded in my life and I realize that God was at work even in the midst of it. Because a lot of times when there's a human face behind it, making decisions or treating us a certain way, we think God's not anywhere near it because this person's doing this to me.

And what I have found is God was always at work. He wants us through those seasons to press into Him because He is looking at you saying, this isn't just somebody making a decision for your life. He's looking at you saying, I'm still at work. It may not make sense right now, but He wants to come alongside you and say, my ways are not your ways. Neither are my thoughts your thoughts. It's much higher. I can see from up here what I'm orchestrating down the road for you. And trust me, it's going to be better.

You're going to be in a deeper relationship with Him through it, because He's doing something far beyond what you could imagine. Who best to know you than the one who created you? Who best to know what's best for you than the God of the universe? And who best to consult when you're going through something for direction than the one with eternal experience?

I would encourage you today trust Him. No matter what you're going through. Trust Him that He's gone before and His thoughts are far above, and you're just going to have to trust Him through it.
