One Simple Way to Start Sharing Your Faith at Work

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” – Matthew 5:16 NLT

Have you ever met someone who was really great at sharing their faith at work? Ever wonder what their secret was?

Several years ago, I was struggling to share my faith. Whenever I would try to invite non-believers to church or talk about spiritual things, my conversation seemed to always fall flat.

One day I met a guy at the office named Cliff. Cliff often had a smile on his face. Right away, he took an interest in me and what was going on in my life. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and an encouraging word.

Cliff wasn’t perfect, but he was willing to admit his mistakes, learn from them, and do his best to make things right. As a result of his positive attitude and willingness to put others first, he was often bringing his co-workers to church and leading them to faith in Christ.

As I was talking with Cliff one day, I realized what I had been doing wrong. I had been sharing the Word of God without the love of God. I was inviting people to church without being the church.

In today’s verse, Jesus says we need to let our good deeds shine so others will praise our heavenly Father. Our love and good deeds point people to God and show them His love for them. If we’re not loving to those without Christ, how will they ever know the love of Christ?

My time with Cliff taught me many lessons, but one lesson, in particular, is this: don’t share the good news without good deeds.

Jesus said in John 13:35, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.”

Love was always meant to be our most defining characteristic. Your co-workers won’t believe God is loving if you’re not loving.

Spend some time this week thinking of how you can be a more loving person at work. The more you share the good news alongside your good deeds, the more you’ll find your co-workers are not only drawn to Christ but to you as well.

Talk It Over

1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how loving would your co-workers say you are, and why?

2. What can you do to show God’s love at work this week?
