5 Prayers for MLK Day

1. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. – Isaiah 1:17 NLT

Father God, give me Your heart to see others the way You see them. Help me to seek Your strength to do good at all times and in all circumstances as Jesus does. I admit I struggle to do good in many different ways, but by the power of Your Holy Spirit, I will grow in actively choosing the path of Your righteousness. Guide me to have the heart to help those who I see are in need. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. – Galatians 3:28 NLT

Father, in Your eyes, all human beings are all the same. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to set people free from the power of sin and death. I praise You for the true freedom that You have given me freely through Jesus. Help me always to continue to seek unity with my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Your Son’s name, amen.

3.“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” – Matthew 5:9 NLT

Heavenly Father, help me to long for Your perfect peace. Your Son Jesus is the true Peacemaker, and I thank You that through Him I have become Your child. Your love, care, and compassion for me are immeasurably deep and I pray that I can better share Your love and peace with more people in my life. In Jesus’ great name, amen.

4. “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” – Matthew 7:12 NLT

God my Father, thank You for giving us such a perfect example of living a life of service to others. May I always strive to treat others the way I would like to be treated, even when I don’t feel like it. When I have times where I’m struggling with this, help me to look to You to guide my heart, thoughts, and actions to do Your will in all circumstances. In the name of Jesus, amen.

5. No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. – Micah 6:8 NLT

Lord, deliver me from walking my own ways. I confess that I often struggle to follow Your ways, especially in the face of adversity. Help me to prioritize Your will above my own. I ask that You give me more opportunities to show Your love and mercy to those who are oppressed and that I may walk humbly with You forever. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, amen.
