I remember a time in my life when I was lost. I felt very depressed. I was just really broken and struggling with purpose. Like, why am I here? My world was just very dark and honestly, I felt very hopeless. And it wasn't until I met the Lord that that changed everything. And when I said yes to Jesus, I was full of life. I had a purpose. I had meaning. My world was no longer dark. It was full of light.
Well, today we find ourselves in one of my favorite verses, John chapter 1 and verse 5, it says, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." The light there is referring to Jesus Christ who came in the flesh, lived a perfect life, and He came to the earth and really to provide a cure for the darkness.
Understanding the Darkness
Well, you might be wondering, okay, so how is this world dark or what's the darkness that you're referring to? Well, when we look all around us, I mean, there's pain. There's suffering. People are spiritually dead. And Jesus came to cure the darkness. And here's the thing about light. Light reveals. What does it reveal? It reveals our need for a Savior.
That's what light does. See, because of sin, you and I need a Savior. And that's why Jesus comes on the scene and He provides a cure for the darkness. And the good news of the gospel is God has been patient with us, and He's given us time to come to Him, to repent of our sins, to acknowledge that we're not only sinners by birth, we're sinners by choice.
The Invitation to Step into the Light
And the good news is that when you make a decision to make Jesus the Lord over your life, you're saying, I refuse to live in the darkness, and I'm choosing to step into the light today. So, the invitation stands for the believer today and the nonbeliever. For the believer, if you're a Christian, your job is to shine the light of Christ wherever you step foot.
But for the non-Christian, if you're watching this and you're like, man, my life is dark, just like mine was, you know, I was depressed, I felt hopeless, I had no direction. Invite the light of the world into your world today.
