What makes a good friend? I’m not just talking about any friend, but like your best friend. Is it someone who’s willing to go on a spontaneous adventure with you? Someone who will always answer your call or your text? Someone you can confide in and tell them anything?
For me, a best friend is someone who truly sees me. Someone who knows me better than I know myself. Someone who believes the best in me, and who’s always there to pick me up and tell me the truth when I need to hear it.
When it comes to describing God, our Father, calling Him a friend seems so simple, but it’s also powerful. There are so many things in this world that seek to bring us down, to label us, to tell us something that isn’t true about who we are. But God sees us for who we are, as His children, pure and beloved. He’s always there for us, and He’s always faithful.
It says in Hebrews 13:5-6 NLT:
“I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
Be encouraged today that though we have to battle so many voices around us, there’s only one voice that matters. And that is the voice of our heavenly Father. He’s the best friend we will ever have. He’s more than just a friend. He’s our Savior. He’s our Redeemer. He gives us life. He gives us hope. He loves us better than anyone else could ever love us. And not only does He pour out His love on us, but He extends grace and mercy when we need it.
That is who He is. Even though it’s simple, it’s such a powerful thing to have a friend in our holy Creator, God, the Lord of the universe.
Remember today, you are not alone. You’ve never been alone, and you will never be alone. He is the best friend you will ever have.
Next Steps:
How can you begin to see and trust God as a best friend? Pray and ask Him to help you trust Him. Share your heart with Him. Tell Him about your day. There’s nothing too small to share with Him. He wants you to share with Him. Begin to build a deep friendship with Him and see how He blesses you in even the small moments.
