But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” – Romans 10:14-15 NLT
Introduction
“Commander, what’s the next move?” The soldier stares anxiously waiting for an answer. Months of war have ravaged the nation. In one final effort to end the madness, a peace treaty has been offered. But until an answer is returned, the battle rages on. The commander stares at the horizon. Three days he’s waited for the runner. And three days he’s watched his men struggle to hold the line.
A faint silhouette dances over the horizon. When he arrives at the commander's tent, he hands the leader a small scroll. Quickly unfurling it, the commander scans the scribbled message. He closes his eyes as a tear falls from his cheek. “Good news,” he whispers under his breath. “The war is over. Now is the time for peace.”
The Feet of Messagers
The Gospel––or Good News––is God’s message of salvation to the world. The news that Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and rose to new life. But a message is only useful if it reaches the ears of those who are meant to hear it. The Gospel is no different. If people are to find salvation through it, they must first hear it. And how are they to hear it if not through messengers who have been entrusted to carry and deliver it?
We have been appointed to be God’s messengers. Every person who calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus as their Savior has been given a task to share His saving name with anyone and everyone when the opportunity presents itself. What a beautiful opportunity––to bring God’s holy message to a world that desperately needs it.
Witness as a Discipline
Sharing God’s Good News is not only a great opportunity we’ve been awarded––it is a responsibility to hold fast to. Witnessing (or sharing the message of salvation) should flow naturally from the life of a believer. As we enjoy God and His tremendous work in and through our lives, we should tell others about it as we would any other good news we receive. Only this news is the best news––and we can’t afford to keep it to ourselves. The feet of God’s messengers herald beauty and wonder everywhere they go.
