5 Bedtime Prayers to Say with Your Children

Christian Living

Prayer is a great practice to include in bedtime routines, especially with kids! It teaches them that God is the One who gives us rest and offers comfort. And just as importantly, it instills in them from a young age the value of bringing their worries to God. Here are five prayers to use before, during, and after bedtime as your kids (and you) work on sleeping through the night.

A Prayer for Before Bedtime

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for calling us Your children and for being our wonderful Heavenly Father. Your love is a gift that we will cherish forever. Help us to rest our minds, bodies, and souls as we go to bed. Thank You for always being with us and always caring for us. Give us good sleep tonight.

In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

A Prayer for Overcoming Fear

Dear God,

You tell us that perfect love takes away any fears. Please take away our worry and give us Your peace. Thank You for loving us and protecting us from bad things. There is nothing that could ever take us away from Your love. Help us to remember You are with us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Bad Dreams

Almighty God,

Please take away our bad thoughts. Give us restful dreams as we remember all the good things You have given to us. There is nothing to be afraid of when we know that You are with us all the time. Help us to sleep through the night peacefully.

In Your name we pray, amen.

A Prayer Against Restlessness

Prince of Peace,

Calm us down and take away our restlessness. Give us Your peace that goes beyond our understanding. Keep our hearts and our minds on you, Jesus. Slow down our minds so that we can lay comfortably in our beds and fall asleep. Thank You for quieting our souls.

In Your precious name we pray, amen.

A Prayer for Them to Memorize

Dear God,

Thank You for loving me and keeping me safe. I don’t have to be afraid because You are with me. Help me to sleep now.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
