LOCAL Closer Look: Voice of Wilderness, Mental Health & Wellbeing In Houston Outdoors

Posted on Sunday, May 2, 2021 by Rafael Sierra

Rafael Sierra spoke with Chet Russell, President & Founder of Voice for Wilderness (VOW) about their mission to reach people for Christ and build them on their faith through backpacking, hiking and outdoor trips. Additionally, VOW aims to help people slow down, de-stress and get out and enjoy God’s natural creation- the outdoors. Russel spoke about VOW’s outreach, not only in the Houston-La Porte area, but nationally as well. He described taking mostly adults on backpacking trips and experiencing the outdoors to help clear the mind of today’s fast-paced society. Russel also mentioned learning about map and compass use, survival skills, physically fitness and other outdoor skills. Russell talked about VOW’s non-profit status, the cost of taking a trip, a scholarship and other payment methods for those who wish to go on a trip but can’t afford it.
