Kindra Ponzio talks with Marina Bernheimer, Exec Dir, San Luis Obispo CASA, CA. Bernheimer shares the duties of the Court Appointed Special Advocates, volunteers that represent kids in foster care. They advocate for these kids in school, at home and in the court, essentially becoming the voice for the child. Bernheimer states that the kids that have a CASA do better in school, less foster homes, better socially and emotionally. Many of these kids stay in contact with their CASA for years after exiting the foster system.
