(WASHINGTON, DC) -- Dale Sutherland worked as an undercover narcotics officer for the D.C. Metro Police for 29 years and has seen the worst of human behavior.

But Dale has always remained hopeful in Jesus.

"I planned to be a pastor and really work with kids in an urban environment. When I was in Bible college I met some police officers and started getting interested in what they were doing." Dale shared. "I ended up doing pastoring and police work at the same time."

After retiring from police work, Dale wanted to continue to make a positive impact in Washington DC. With that in mind, Dale and couple of his retired friends started an organization called Code 3

Code 3 impacts Metro DC with things like field trips, after school programs, and recently joined with officers from the 5th District Outreach Unit, Rapid Engagement Unit of Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, and DC Central Kitchen to feed the elderly with a food distribution at a local senior center.

"We started out to try to repair the relationship between the police and the community. We started some after school programs--they'll have cops and volunteers. The cops get to see kids from the neighborhood...as human. And the kids get to see the cops as 'actually nice.'

And for those of us who know the Lord on Code 3, we get to share Christ with both the police and the community."
