Two of worship music’s newest names — UPPERROOM’s Abbie Gamboa and former Young & Free member Aodhán King — join forces for “Deep.” Punctuated by synth and percussion, the rhythmic cut probes the depths of the wonder of God. A modern love song, “Deep” captures the safety, awe and affection of a genuine relationship with Jesus.

“And it’s You who has my heart. And I knew it from the very start. That I cannot bear to part,” Gamboa and King confess. “I’m in over my head, it’s true. Nothing ever made sense like You do. Can I tell You again that I’m so in love with You?”
Gamboa’s airy delivery swirls around flowery vows of devotion, while King easily intertwines his warm pop vocal with hers. Together, they admit this is a love that makes sense, as if this relationship has crystalized life and its meaning.

Based on the universal lyrics and the mainstream melody alone, the song could easily be interpreted as a love letter written for Gamboa’s husband or King’s girlfriend. Yet, anyone who’s familiar with these two artists knows both of them respectively possess an authentic, all-encompassing love for Jesus, leaving little doubt as to who they’re actually singing about.
The mesmerizing “Deep” appears on the duo’s “Throwing Paint,” their first full-length collaborative album. An ambitious creative experiment, the 10 tracks that comprise “Throwing Paint” were written, recorded and mixed in only six days as Gamboa, King and a small group of friends challenged themselves to allow the constraint of time to be a guiding force in helping them craft something truly unique.
