There is power when a humble heart turns toward Heaven. Whether it’s under the bright lights of a stadium or the quiet, starry expanse of an Oklahoma sky, prayer has a way of leveling the ground for all of us.

That’s the heartbeat behind Brandon Lake’s latest release. After weeks of social media teasing, the "Gratitude" singer has officially teamed up with Texas country powerhouse Cody Johnson for a brand-new version of the farmland ballad, "When A Cowboy Prays."

The original version, released by Lake late last year, quickly became a fan favorite for its raw, cinematic storytelling. While the track leans heavily into country influences, this isn't Lake’s first time crossing genres. He has a proven track record of successful collaborations, including his 2023 work with Thomas Rhett on "Talking to Jesus" and his 2025 CMA-nominated hit "Hard Fought Hallelujah" with Jelly Roll.

Announced to the public on Dec. 8, Lake shared his excitement on Instagram:

"The one and only @codyjohnson yall!!! I could not be more HONORED & PROUD of this version of “When A Cowboy Prays.” I tear up every time I listen! So thankful for this collab and this friendship. Cowboy or not, I’m praying it blesses every one of you and reminds ya the power of prayer. Available January 9th!"

The collaboration feels like a pair of great-fitting boots. Lake's prolific songwriting and Johnson's traditional country roots combine for a powerful moment of humility and worship. The song serves as a reminder: whether we're wearing a suit and tie or a cowboy hat and spurs, the God we serve remains in control and He is always wanting to hear from us.
