We almost lost our son and daughter during Holy Week ten years ago.
My wife was pregnant with our twins. During what seemed like a routine ultrasound, we discovered a problem and were sent to the hospital immediately. On Good Friday, around dinner time, my wife had a procedure to save her pregnancy. We waited with bated breath for the next 48 hours to determine if we would be able to meet our babies. When we left the hospital on Easter Sunday in the late afternoon with an encouraging diagnosis from her doctor, the hope of the Resurrection became more real than ever.
Brandon Lake has his own story of miracles that surrounded his birth. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “A part of my story and I know many of yours. My mom had 6 miscarriages but never gave up on the promise that God made her that she would be a mom. Me, my brother, and sister are glad my parents kept praying and believing!”
Lake’s story inspired his new anthem, “Miracle Child.” The song begins with a retelling of his miraculous birth.

"I shouldn't be alive
My future was six-feet under
One foot in the grave
No hope to be saved"
But Lake wants to tell more than just the story of his miraculous birth. He also wants to give hope to those who feel beyond saving. In the third verse, Lake offers hope to listeners who are discouraged due to their failures.
“If you're facing the odds
If you think you're beyond His saving
There's no life He can't raise
No, your wounds aren't too great”
Lake’s words echo the conviction the Apostle Paul shared at the end of Romans 8. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”

Verse three transitions into the chorus with a bold and hopeful declaration.
“Death, where is your sting?
My Savior's word is final
I am resurrected
Blood-protected
I am a miracle child”
The chorus of "Miracle Child" draws from the conclusion of 1 Corinthians 15, where Paul adapted from the words of the prophet Hosea. “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“Miracle Child” merges lyrics rooted in Scripture with honesty rooted in real-life experience. During the bridge, Lake worships God for His unchanging character and our undeserved salvation.
“You're the living, breathing God of glory
I'm a living, breathing testimony
You're the one who turns a dead-end story
To a living, breathing testimony”
I know many people who struggle to trust God. They have questions, doubts, and unresolved hang-ups. “If only God would do a miracle like the Bible describes, I could get over these struggles and trust in Him.”
"Miracle Child" is an answer to that question. Listening to the song as I prepared this devotional, I remembered that there are miracles everywhere if you have eyes to see and ears to hear. For instance, my friend Chad is a miracle child. After cheating on his wife and battling alcoholism for decades, he is miraculously sitting at church next to his wife each Sunday.

My friend Nina is a miracle child. After forty years of alcoholism and deep battles with suicidal ideation, she is miraculously sober, joyful, and hopeful about the future.
I thanked God for my miracle children today. After surviving Holy Week, they were born five weeks early. Both spent weeks in the NICU. I was unable to hold my son for nearly a week after his birth. My daughter got very sick a few days after birth. Yet, tonight, we ate pancakes together while they discussed their favorite Easter candies.
You are a miracle child, too! Regardless of where you've been and what you've done, Jesus offered you grace and mercy by Jesus. Your weaknesses are no match for the power of His wounds.
The Apostle Paul summarized God's gift to each of us. “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)”
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You’re a miracle child!
