When my kids were little, they hated it when I used a certain word.
Maybe.
At one point, my daughter said, “Dad, whenever you say ‘maybe,’ what you really mean is no.” Her comment was funny and convicting. My kids discovered that when I wasn't ready to say yes and didn't want to tell them no yet, I used “maybe” to buy myself some time to decide. As a result, they struggled to trust my words.
I’m so glad that God operates differently. With God, we don’t have to doubt His word because His yes means “yes!” and His no means “no!” In Numbers 23:19, we read the following reminder. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”
The promises and character of God are at the core of Elevation Worship’s song, “SO BE IT.” Unlike other songs that stir our hope or invite us to plead with God, “SO BE IT” offers promise after promise and one confident declaration after another, grounded in what God has done. The song invites us to treat God’s promises the same way we do past events - without any doubts.
Elevation Worship’s Tiffany Hudson spoke about this unique element of the song. “‘SO BE IT’ declares the sovereignty and finality of God’s word,” shares Elevation Worship’s Tiffany Hudson. “If God spoke it, it’s as good as done. We can be confident that nothing could ever overturn or override the word of God.”
As I listened to the song recently, I began to consider if my mindset is always aligned with this truth. “Do I treat God’s word the same way my kids responded when I said maybe? Am I living with confidence in the finality of His word?”
Those considerations led me to explore the Bible for reminders about why I should live with that kind of confidence. I found encouragement in the following passages.
First, in Isaiah 55, I read what God spoke through the prophet. “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” God’s word has incredible power!
Second, in Isaiah 54, I read God’s promise to empower His people. “But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you.” That passage reminded of the power of God’s support.

Third, in Revelation 12, I read what a loud voice from the heavens declared about our future victory. “For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” That passage reminded me that the power of God’s word and deeds can defeat my enemy, Satan.
After reading these passages, I went back and listened to the song. As I followed along with the lyrics on my phone, the power of God’s word overwhelmed me. There was no reason to lack confidence in God’s promises or power. When I meditated on His deeds and decisive victories, “SO BE IT” mentions, especially the ones described during Holy Week, I was inspired to hit play again, so I could worship God with my whole heart and give Him the praise He deserves.

There are seasons in all of our lives where we get worn down. There are moments when we contemplate giving up. Like a cloudy sky before rain or snow begin to fall, our difficulties can make it hard to see the light of God. When we look up and find our vision clouded, we need to look to God’s word for the reminders of who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised to do. Because His promises are guaranteed, trustworthy, and strong enough to bear our weight.
If you’re feeling unstable or lacking confidence, I encourage you to listen to “SO BE IT” and revisit these passages and other moments referenced in the song. As Tiffany Hudson noted, “If God said it, it’s as good as done.”
