We're told in Philippians chapter 2 that one day every knee is going to bow, and every tongue is going to confess that Jesus is Lord. In Revelation chapter 7, this is actually looking forward to that day. It is a vision of that day when people from every tribe and every nation are going to bow before the Lord Jesus Christ and praise Him for who He is.
What the Angels Will Sing
On that day when that happens, there's going to be angels, and the angels are going to be overseeing that confession of man, and while they oversee, they are going to sing. This, right here, is what they are going to sing. Again, they sang, "Amen," which means to confirm or to agree with. So, the angels are going to say amen to the confession of people that Christ is King, and then they're going to sing, "Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever. Amen."
According to this verse, what belongs to God forever and ever? Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and strength. That's a lot.
Praising God's Attributes
Here's a way to think about it. On that day, the angels will sing and they will praise God for His attributes, namely, His wisdom—He knows all things; His power—He is Almighty; and His strength. They will praise Him for His wisdom, power, and strength, and they will give to Him those other words that are mentioned in that verse.
When they sang, they will praise Him for His attributes, and then they will give to Him a blessing. Not a word we use a lot, but another way to think of it is praise. They will give God praise. They will give Him glory, which means to point to Him, which means to glorify, which means to draw attention to the great God. They will give Him thanksgiving, which is thankfulness, which is gratitude for His gifts. They will give to Him honor, which means to affirm His Majesty.
Recognizing God's Glory
That day is coming for us. Before God's angels, R.C. Sproul says about this verse, "We do not give glory to God in the sense of adding anything to Him. He is already intrinsically glorious. When we glorify God, we are recognizing, declaring, and honoring the glory that is already His. We are ascribing to Him His own worth."
We look forward to the day when the angels will sing, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever. Amen."
