We are saturated with a world of influencers. You don't have to be on the internet for very long before someone pops up and tells you what you need to be doing with your life. If you want to be successful, you'll wear these clothes. If you want to look really cool when you pull up to a party, you'll be driving this car. Or you have people making all of these big promises, telling you that you're going to be the best version of yourself if you follow their five-step plan for financial success, or "new year, new me—eat grass for three weeks and lose 50 pounds."
It's all of these big, grand promises. But here's the thing—the common thread through all of these messages is that they don't know you. They're assuming things about you based on patterns, but they don't know who you are. To be very honest, there are so many people out there who will tell you what you want to hear because they want something from you.
The One Who Actually Knows You
Imagine this: what if there were someone who knew exactly what you needed? Who knew what you needed to hear, not just what you wanted to hear, and offered solutions that promised longer-lasting results? That's exactly what this Scripture is pointing to: the Holy Spirit. If He were allowed to guide your life, He would actually be the best influencer you ever welcomed into your story. Don't listen to the voices that are telling you that you need to look like this or sound like this, because it feeds that sinful nature that the Scripture is talking about. If you allow the Holy Spirit access to your decisions—and even to the other voices you allow into your life—He's the main one guiding every step you take. You will have long-lasting fruit.
There's actually Scripture to back this up, that says there's fruit that comes from the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, and so many more. I'd encourage you—be careful what voices you allow into your life, and let the Holy Spirit guide every step you take. You will not be disappointed with the outcome.
