I think today's verse is one of the most powerful verses in the Bible. But before we get to that, have you ever known somebody that name drops? Maybe you're one that name drops to different people depending on the circumstances or situation. It's like, oh yeah, I know this person that everyone else would know. It gives you an association with what you're talking about. It's like, oh, okay. So you know that person. Wow. That's a big deal. Especially depending on the circumstances of the situation that you're talking about.
The Power of His Name
I'd love to have that lens as we look at the Verse of the Day. Obviously, the Bible is chock full of powerful verses, but I find this to be one of the most important.
It's Philippians chapter 2, verse 10. It says, "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth."
Let’s take it the next step further in the next verse, because it says, "And every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." A powerful verse because of the name of Jesus.
Looking at the context of the passage, before we get too far into just the name of Jesus, I would encourage you to look at Philippians chapter 2 and just really the context of who Jesus is. Before we name drop that, at the name of Jesus, we have to understand who He is. Looking at the first part of Philippians chapter 2, it shows that He was a servant, He came to the earth for us.
No One Worthy Except Jesus
I want to spend a little bit of time in the book of Revelation. I know a lot of people don't go there, but there is a passage in Revelation chapter 5, this is what it says. It says, "And I saw a strong angel who shouted with a loud voice, 'Who is worthy to break the seals on the scroll and open it?' But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it. Then I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it"—this is the author of Revelation, John. "But one of the 24 elders said to me, 'Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David's throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.' Then I saw a Lamb"—talking about Jesus.
That's why, with our Verse of the Day today, I love that it says there is no one worthy. Capture that. I mean, if we were talking about us, it's like, yeah, we'd be looking around the room. It's like, I'm not worthy. I'm not blameless. I'm not perfect. How about you? We're talking in heaven. Everyone's looking around in heaven, on earth and under the earth. There was no one found worthy except for Jesus.
He Has Won the Victory
I love to emphasize what it says. It says He has won the victory. I just want to encourage you today with this verse that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow of things in heaven, of things on earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, and He has won the victory.
Whatever is going on in your life today, remember God says in His Word that at the name of Jesus, if you're struggling, if you're hurting, if you feel oppressed by things, by people, by circumstances, that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow. He has won the victory. Whatever you're struggling with, He's already won it. Give Him the victory today.
Live into what Jesus has for you today because He's already gone before you. He's already brought the victory. At the name of Jesus, no matter what's going on in your life, it will bow before His name. Now, keep in mind that's why I read Philippians chapter 2, because it has to be just like when we name drop. It has to be in the characteristics and attributes and who He is as Jesus, the Son of God that came to be a servant, that died for us, that lives for eternal impact.
That's what His focal point is today. When you call upon Him, introduce Him again into your day. He's won the victory for you today.
