Today's Verse of the Day has a little bit of homework attached to it. Before you go running off, I know I said homework, but it's going to be fun. Stay with me. We're going to read through this passage. It comes out of 1 Chronicles chapter 16, verse 23. Here's what it says: "Let the whole earth sing to the LORD! Each day proclaim the good news that He saves."
We live in a world of distractions. My phone is in my left hand all the time. My thumb practically scrolls by itself even when the phone isn't there. I live in a world full of noise and so do you. So often I miss God because I'm focused on what's in my hands.
God Is Revealing Himself Through the World
If we take a second and we really think about what this Scripture is saying, it points to the fact that God is revealing Himself through the world. Everything is singing to Him. Now that's some poetic language there, but the image behind it, the message is that the world is pointing to God's glory. Have you been out on a walk? Maybe you've got your dog or your pet, you're walking and you've got your phone in one hand, your animal on the leash in the other, and you just miss the world around you. I've been there, and I think if I were to put my phone away and really look around, I'd see how creation all sings God's praises.
David writes in the Psalms that the skies and the heavens declare the glory of God, and how he looks to the hills and sees that his help comes from the Lord. If we put away the distractions and we look to Jesus first, we'll see His glory revealed through creation.
Proclaim How God Saves
There's a second part to this Scripture. It says that we should go through and proclaim how God saves. That might seem a little intimidating to you, but I think a great practical piece of this Scripture is that we ask the Lord how He wants us to do it. I think for both ends: Lord, how do You want me to see You in Your creation? Then, how do You want me to talk about my salvation?
A very easy first step is just to tell somebody that Jesus loves them. You might be checking out at the grocery store, and you're on your way out, and right before you go, you feel the tug on your heart by the Holy Spirit saying, hey, tell them. Tell them that I love them. That might be the only thing you do. There may be no response from the person. It might actually push them back just a little bit, because they're not used to experiencing that kind of love from somebody. But you were obedient, and who knows, that might actually be the door that the Lord uses to open up more conversations about salvation.
Your Homework
In both of these things, I would encourage you to take time away from this. Here's your homework. Ask the Lord: How do You want me to see You revealed in the world around me? How do you want me to point people to the saving grace that you've given me through Jesus? He'll answer. He'll give you direction. You can trust that as a good teacher, He will lead you. He'll teach you how to approach the world around you and how to see Him in everything surrounding you.
