This is a beautiful picture of a man who is full to the brim of joy and excitement at the hand of what God has done and who He is, and what it means to know Him.
David's Song of Thanks
This section of Scripture sometimes is called David's Song of Thanks, and I love this idea because it represents a heart filled with gratitude, immediately turning to the source of where all good things come from. Listen to how this verse is worded: "Give to the LORD the glory He deserves." When there are things that transpire in your life that are beautiful and worthy of celebration, when there are the receipt of gifts and times where there is flourishing in your life, this comes from God and we need to give God the glory. That seems like such a simple idea, doesn't it?
I think on paper when we read it, it feels like, I understand why it's important and I really think that I should do it. Through the rigors of daily life, as we make decisions, we go about our days, we go to work, we pick up our kids, we're just living. And in the middle of just living, life transpires in front of us. Things happen and things change. There's exchange of ideas. There's job gain, job loss. There's passing of family members. There's celebrations of new life. If we're not careful, we can just fall into a rut of just seeing life as something that just unfolds before us arbitrarily. We're just living and we're doing the best that we can to hold on for dear life to the ride until we're finished.
God Is Aware of Our Existence
If we're not careful, we can miss that God, at every turn, is aware of our existence, and He's inside the smallest of details. He's with us in the hardest of times. He is the One who provides what we need. He is the One who will lift us up when we're low. God is with us on the journey, and as we're living this life out here on earth, it's important for us to acknowledge His presence along the way.
I love that it says at the end of our verse for today, "To worship the LORD in all His holy splendor." The reason I think the word "all" is important there kind of touches on what I've already described: that in life, there's a lot of texture and different changes that happen. Not everything in life feels awesome. Sometimes we go through really hard situations. Sometimes things are difficult to navigate and we don't know the way forward. Sometimes things go different than maybe we expected, but in all things, we need to remember that God receives and deserves all glory and honor.
Worship in All Seasons
If we're not careful, we can sometimes only worship God when things are going well. But it's important for us to realize that we should be worshiping the living God at all times. One of the greatest gifts that we receive is one that may not be very naturally intuitive in the hard seasons, in the times when things are difficult. In our worship and giving glory to God, it's actually the time when He lifts us out of the moment and provides respite, even in a hard season.
Whether you're high or low today, whether you're challenged or flourishing, give God all the glory.
