Have you found yourself laying in your bed, waking up thinking you would have the energy to do everything you'd planned the day before, and you already feel like you lost the battle? I've been there a handful of times and it can feel very defeating. You've got hope. Then you wake up and that hope is deflated. I pray our Verse of the day encourages you in whatever moment you find yourself.
It's 1 John chapter 5, verse 5. It says, "And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God."
The Battle Hinges on Belief
The battle hinges on belief. Internally, the fight is happening. It could happen in your mind where you think, I can't do this, or in your heart, I'm really not feeling this today. The battle is for our heart. The world wants it, whether you see it or not. The advertising that pops up on your screen, the voices you hear on your TV, or even conversations you hear surrounding you at the coffee shop when you're out and about—it's all about how to get your heart, how to capture it.
If the world can determine what you believe, it can keep you from seeing Jesus. It can actually curb your faith. If we go a level deeper, we can think about how it will make you believe that what is possible is completely up to you. But what do you do when you wake up in the morning and you don't have the energy to do anything?
The Battle Is Already Won
I would encourage you to pause and remember that the battle is already won in Jesus. If you feel today that you don't have the energy to fight, think of this: Jesus already won. It's going back to the truth of what Scripture says and calling yourself to remember.
David, an author of the Psalms, actually writes to his soul. He says, "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Put your hope in God." There is this call that we have to choose to engage with when we know that the Bible never changes, it never lies. The Word of God is always true. We have to put our hope in the fact that God is never changing.
When the battle feels like it's shifting one way or the other and we can't get out, we need to be like David and call ourselves to attention and say, no matter what energy I have or don't have today, I will put my hope in God. He's the one that will overcome, and ultimately, the enemy cannot change the outcome of the cross.
The Hope That Hinges on Belief
The hope that you have today hinges entirely on your belief in Jesus. If you haven't put your faith in Him today, I would ask you to seriously consider it. If you feel hopeless, call on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. If you feel faithless, the Bible says that He remains faithful.
Don't back down in the fight. Just because you feel like you've lost ground does not mean that the war is lost. Jesus won. It says actually that He took the keys of death and hell. He holds them. They belong to Him. The enemy is under His feet.
Choose to Stand in Jesus's Victory
I would ask that today, wherever you find yourself, choose to stand in Jesus's victory.
