A tiny Tabby kitten rescued from a glue trap in Anaheim six weeks ago has been adopted by the person who agreed to have her transferred into foster care at Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) in Encinitas.
An animal lover in Anaheim found the kitten and rushed her to Orange Couty Animal Care (OCAC). She was suffering from hypothermia, a life-threatening condition. Veterinarians warmed the kitten with mineral baths, which also helped to dissolve some of the glue stuck to her fur.
The kitten nicknamed “Sticky,” received daily baths to keep her warm and remove the glue from her fur. She enjoyed her baths and the extra attention.
At Rancho Coastal Humane Society and many shelters and rescues across the United States, foster care providers have the first opportunity to adopt animals under their care. Shelters jokingly refer to fosters who adopt as “Foster Failures.”
In this case, the Foster Failure is Rancho Coastal Humane Society Foster Manager Lilly Thacker. When Lilly visited OCAC and heard about the kitten stuck in a rat glue trap, she asked to meet it. Knowing that survival was not guaranteed, Lilly agreed to have the kitten transferred to RCHS through the FOCAS – Friends of County Animal Shelters program.
As Sticky Kitten recovered and gained weight, Lilly decided to adopt her. Sticky weighed less than one pound when she was found. Once she weighed three pounds, she was healthy enough to be spayed, released by the RCHS Medical Department, and adopted by her Foster Mom.
Lilly decided her new kitten needed a more positive name, so she renamed her Sticky Minnie Mouse.
