Armed Forces Day is a day in which we celebrate and honor men and women across all branches of the military—Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force—who are actively serving our country.
Whether you know and love someone who’s currently serving, or are serving in the military yourself, here are a few prayers to pray for Armed Forces Day.
A Prayer for a Family Member in the Service
Heavenly Father, I lift up [name] to You right now. Thank You for their willingness to serve their country in this way. Give them peace, strength, and wisdom to know how to act, think, and make decisions to the best of their ability. Even though it’s so hard to be apart from them, and I miss them so much, it gives me comfort to know that You’re with them every moment. I pray they feel Your presence going with them no matter where they are. Keep them safe, Lord. In Your name, amen.
A Prayer for Safety
God, I ask that You keep all the men and women serving our country safe, no matter their role or where they’re serving. Send Your angels to be a shield around them, going behind, beside, and before them. I pray that You are present in all decision making and operations. Please bring them safely back home to their families. I trust that they are in good hands with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
A Prayer for Wisdom
Lord, I know there are thousands of decisions that these men and women are having to make every single day. Many of the decisions are not easy and affect lots of other people. Please give supernatural wisdom to every single person who has to make hard calls or give guidance to others. I pray that no decisions are made out of selfishness or fear, but are made in an effort to best serve and protect everyone impacted. Let them feel Your hand leading them in everything they do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
A Prayer of Gratitude
God, thank You so much for all the men and women who are serving in the military right now. It’s a sacrifice that can only be fully understood by those experiencing it firsthand. Thank You for all the ways they keep our country safe that most people, me included, aren’t even aware of. Show me how I can support and encourage those I know and love who are serving. In Your name, amen.
A Prayer for Military Families
Jesus, I lift up all the families who have a loved one on active duty right now. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be away from your family, not knowing exactly where they are, what they’re doing, or whether they’re safe. Give them peace each and every day. Help them to lean on You for comfort and strength to get through this season, and remind them that You are with their loved one, guarding them and guiding them each moment. I pray that You bring these families a good support system of people who can be present with them, encourage them, and provide for them in tangible ways. Help them to know they’re never alone. In this and all things we give You glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
