“Outsing The Angels” marks a watershed moment in Cory Asbury’s life, not to mention his career. For the past five years, Asbury has been working hard on a country record, writing with some of Music Row’s most esteemed songwriters. 2023’s “Pioneer” hinted at a more folk-leaning, Americana-flavored sonic direction; but this time, the “Reckless Love” singer was intent on leaving his worship roots behind for good and pursuing country music full-throttle on his next endeavor. In reality, he was running from his true calling.
In a moment of conviction, Asbury scrapped the country project and opted to craft a live worship album instead. The complete collection drops Sept. 18, 2026, but in the meantime, the longtime worship leader has released “Outsing The Angels” — the title cut — to give listeners a taste of what’s to come.
Defined by heart-pounding drums and scorching electric guitars, “Outsing The Angels” reveals Asbury returning to the bold brand of worship he’s known for and joining the heavenly host in an intense declaration of rowdy praise.
Embracing the Christian music community, the singer-songwriter invited an all-star cast of friends to join him on the recording. While he couldn’t gather them all in one room at one time, he did manage to assemble a who’s who roster of artists who recorded their respective vocals in various locations. Buried deep into the stacked chorus, 15 different men back Asbury. His A-list choir boasts a mix of veteran names and talented newcomers, including Chris Tomlin, Ben Fuller, Joel Houston, Andrew Ripp, Jonathan Traylor, Patrick Mayberry, Dave Lubben, TobyMac, Michael W. Smith, Gable Price, Christian Hohn, Mack Brock, Josh Baldwin, TEMITOPE and Thunderstorm Artis.
“‘Outsing The Angels’ is a call to outlandish, unruly worship. It’s the childlike, almost foolish notion that we, mere mortals, could somehow contend with the very beings created for the sole purpose of worship,” Asbury explains. “Honestly, it’s preposterous. But it’s a reminder that we were once young and wild and full of life and passion before the mundaneness of everyday life dulled our love for Him.”
Asbury penned the fearless anthem alongside Paul Duncan, Ran Jackson and Ricky Jackson and recorded the track, as well as his upcoming LP, at Nashville’s historic RCA Studios.
The father of five is currently on Forrest Frank’s buzzworthy summer jaunt, “The Jesus Generation Tour,” which is smashing attendance records nationwide.
