Johnny Cash: The Redemption of An American Icon is due out in theaters nationwide on December 5, 6 and 7. Based on a book written by Pastor Greg Laurie, the movie details Cash's life--his early desire to sing gospel music, his rise to fame, his battles with drug addiction and his return to Jesus.

Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon tells the story of a man born to poor Arkansas cotton farmers who although he wanted to sing gospel, joined the rockabilly scene in Memphis. Signed by the same guy that signed people like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash soon became one of the world's biggest music stars with iconic songs like "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", and "Folsom Prison Blues".
Cash arguably had one of the most recognizable voices in American music.
After being introduced to amphetamines by fellow country music star Waylon Jennings, Cash found himself addicted and unable to quit. Depression threatened to take over and Cash became desperate for help.
That first detox became a part of the path to bringing Johnny Cash back to his first love--Jesus Christ.
