LOCAL Closer Look: Volunteers of America Texas, Helping The Vulnerable In Houston

Rafael Sierra talks with Ericka English, Director of Marketing and Communications for Volunteers of America Texas. Volunteers of America Texas has services that span throughout the state of Texas, including the Houston area, helping the vulnerable in the community reach their full potential. English outlined the services they provide including help for people recovering form substance use disorders, people reentering society from prison, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, homeless veterans and seniors who need affordable housing. English also described their Financial Opportunity Center designed to help low-income individuals learn financial literacy, credit scores, first-time home buying and job training. English said some of their programs are offered at minimal cost or are based on a person’s income, such as help with supplemental housing. However, she said there is no cost to their treatment programing, their financial opportunity center in Houston, their homeless veterans reintegration program and their training for people with disabilities program.
