New Song Feature "Stay Strong" Danny Gokey

Danny Gokey’s story is evidence of Romans 8:28. After losing his first wife due to heart surgery complications, the “American Idol” alum went on to unexpectedly find love again. Today, he and his wife, Leyicet, have four beautiful children. God turned Gokey’s personal tragedy into his testimony. Yet, on his latest single, “Stay Strong,” the award winner transparently captures what it feels like when you’re waiting for God to work all things together for your good.

On the solemn ballad, the “Haven’t Seen It Yet” singer vows to trust God even if he never experiences the breakthrough he’s praying for on this side of heaven.

“It’s one thing to know that God is going to come through. It’s another to endure in the midst of the struggle,” Gokey remarks. “No matter where you are today, and even if you never see the answer you want, this song is a reminder to stay strong, to hold onto your faith, and to never stop believing that God will work everything out for good!”

Standing in faith seems to be a recurring thematic thread that consistently weaves its way through Gokey’s music. Many of his songs speak to the importance of perseverance in the midst of trial. Possibly because he knows all too well what it’s like to wonder if things will ever change or if redemption is still possible. On “Stay Strong,” he encourages those in the waiting room of life to cling to the truth of God’s Word and to lean into the character of Christ, remaining confident that — regardless of the outcome — God’s goodness remains steadfast.

The moody, piano-led selection is found on Gokey’s 2021 release, “Jesus People.” He’s taking the message of the song on the road this fall on his “Stay Strong Tour,” headlining 26 nights of uplifting worship in cities across the country. Fellow artist Austin French and newcomer Natalie Layne are currently providing support on the trek that runs through November.

Following his fall outing, Gokey will reunite with longtime friend and tourmate Natalie Grant for “K-LOVE’s Celebrate Christmas” tour, also set to feature special guest Mac Powell.
