The Dan Report - "Why Do You Have to be So Mean?"

Are people getting meaner?  Or has social media now just given us a voice to express those "mean" thoughts that we used to just keep bottled in our head?  In the latest "Dan Report", Air1 Morning Show news guy Dan Dillard explores when and why people on the Internet got so mean?

Click here to listen to Dan's discussion on this topic

And make sure you join Dan along with Eric & Mandy on the Air1 Morning Show on Air1.

Oh ... and feel free to comment on this story.  Just don't be mean ... unless that's your thing.

Im  wit Dan on this one. I dont comment on many thins. Espc. some where seriously publiclike Youtube, newsites, ect. I guess partially cauze I ma strugglin to overcome serious shyness. But also thins can get so nasty so qucikly. Its like ppl dont even wunt to have conversations about anythin. They wunt to state their oppinon and then if you dont agree wit them they dont wutn to hear you or speak to you. I just feel like its so futile. I was honestly just talk to the Lord about this the other day. (It was when I was readin about the vanalizim at the Chick-Fil-a) wut always comes to mind is how in proverbs it tells us time and timeagain to rebuke a fool is pointless Proverbs 9:7 says "Whoeever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. then in 9:13 it goes on to say "The woman of Folly is loud; she is undisiciplined and without knowledge." and of course it says this countless times thro out Proverbs. I feel like the comments section is such a loud out cry of this. So honestly I just avoid readin any comments. Ill watch the vido, read the sotory or wutever. BVut avoid  the commentssection. The only other thin I wunt to say about this is this: It has SHOCKED me how nasty those who call themseleves Christians can get in comments. Imean Im not tryin to be a plank-eyed saint here. But twice now first on the Chick-fil-a story and then the other nite when I cam across and old Rock and Worship Rd Show video of Jeff from TAN and seein Christians tell other ppl to "shut their traps"amongst other thins. If that is how we as Christians act all I can say is wow. Yea, we need Jesus. So the short of this is I guess is this: Im just gonna keep avodiin the comments sectionsIf someone wunts to have and honest conversation wit me Im more than willin. But not via internet comments.

God Bless.

I think this is where social media is getting in our way.  You shouldn't have felt anything about their laughing or comments at all...just pity that the people in the store had to express themselves in such a demeaning way.  Take heart in what your boy said but always remember to be christlike and still love everyone.  Its the media that tells us to lash out instead of saying the smart christlike thing.  Have to admit personally I'm always bad at it too.

Just take from the whole thing how much your family loves you Laughing

Hi, Eric!  I have been feeling this way for a very long time...maybe the last couple years.  People no longer use "please" or "thank you."  Most times, they cannot even squeak a half-hearted smile.  I get so frustrated and feel like I'm being attacked sometimes in the most passive aggressive ways.  I have to remind myself that I cannot have expectations of others to behave properly.  Our society is a blended mishmash of cultures where niceties may have never existed.  I have been working very hard lately on just worrying about myself and not being offended by others' actions.  That's a jagged pill to swallow, for sure!  But Jesus wants us to walk in His Spirit and focus on Him...not other people.  I find that when I focus on listening to Him, I become less and less offended by all those who are becoming meaner and meaner!  Wink

God Bless you, Eric!  Love your show with Mandy and Dan and you all minister God's love in amazing ways!  Take care!
