If Jesus Had a Blog: I Told This Great Story About a Samaritan Guy and People Didn't Really Like It

What up.

Frustrating:  STILL no WiFi in Nazareth, so we had to walk all the way to Caesarea to get to this sweet Panera.  We had enough shekels for some coffee, but the guys wanted me to go all "loaves and fishes" on the caramel biscotti.

Not happening.

Anyway, just got done talking to this guy who was all, "What do I have to do to inherit eternal life?"  Great question, but when I started talking to him, and mentioned loving his neighbor, he got a little defensive, so he asked, "Well, who's my neighbor?"

I told a story (By the way, enough with the movie clips. Just tell a story. Best. Teaching. Device. EVER.) and it's about a guy who gets attacked and left by a roadside.  A religious leader walks by, and doesn't help. And then this Levite walks by, and doesn't help, and then a Samaritan comes by and totally takes care of him.

Didn't go over that well.

Well, apparently, Peter "needs" the laptop, so I'm out. He's got this "singing" goat video he keeps making everybody watch. It IS pretty funny.

Hey Jesus... love the blog.  And I know you MEAN well, and making a Samaritan the "good guy" is for shock value, but you've got to remember, you've got a lot of young people who follow you, and they could get the wrong impression.

We all know that Samaritans believe a lot of wrong things. They are nice people, I'm sure, but their doctrine is TOTALLY fouled up. By making a Samaritan the star, you sound like you're saying it's more important to "love" people than to believe the right doctrinal things.

I'm sure you don't mean that.

Just something to think about :)

-- sunny_ames34

Hey "sunny_ames34":  I think he totally means that.

-- the4joneses

I know it's not the point, but I'd like to just say I'm a little disappointed you guys watch stuff on YouTube.  Yes, I know there's nothing wrong with the cute singing goat video - not that I've seen it - but YouTube has a lot of other bad stuff on it - which I also haven't seen.

Just kinda disappointed you're apparently endorsing everything this secular organization does.  Please read more on personal holiness at my blog: holy4jesus.blogspot.com

-- sally83

Sally, just kinda disappointed you're endorsing "blospot".

-- pre262

Well, I can't say I'm surprised, here, Jesus. This just tops it, for me. You tell a story and the BAD guys are the preachers and religious leaders?  And the good guy is a guy who doesn't even know the right place or way to worship God?  Wow.

Just wow.

Our leaders try hard, and and they help us try hard, and they are men of God, and we respect them for that. They have a lot of charisma and personality and they know so much. Leave them alone, unless that is, you want us to think NO ONE but YOU is good, and only YOU should be our Teacher?

-- grace2u

Is this where I sign up for the seafood giveaway?  I heard you were doing a big seafood giveaway. Sorry if wrong thread.

-- elly1972

This is great.  Thank you, Lord, for making things so simple. I don't envy you. Simpicity makes experts mad. Always will.

You are my Teacher, and I heard your story.  And I now know all the expertise in the world, all the "authority" in the religious world, all the busy-ness that comes to religion - all are meaningless, distracting, even OFFENSIVE, when not coupled with extreme humility and love and true servant-heartedness.

Beautiful. Reminds me of how often I've driven past my neighbors' home en route to another church planning session, or practice, or church event designed to - you guessed it - "reach our neighbors".  They sure keep us busy, don't they?

Thank you, once again, for setting me straight.  It frees me, honestly.  So simple!  Boy

-- c_dyson12

JESUS, you make me angry.

But it's a good anger, and a righteous anger I have.  Because I'm totally sure I'm right.

-- jasecase

Well, Jesus, I appreciate what you're saying, I guess. But let's be honest: While you're making the religious leaders the bad guys in this story, you NEED them. You need their talents, their special abilities, their speaking skills, etc., to get your word out. Without talented religious people, do you think the Kingdom would really advance?

Seriously?

-- DTS_class2008

Guys, you're jumping all over Jesus here, and that's not his point. His point is that we need accountability groups, and possibly an additional Bible study each week.

-- atlanta239

That's not his point.  His point is that we need GOD back in our schools, and back in our government, and people just need to deal with it.  RIGHT. NOW.  BEFORE WE LOSE THIS COUNTRY.

-- katyinfla

Hey "atlanta239", I live in Marrietta, and could join a Bible study. I have church stuff on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. And Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday, but Friday is open.  Wait - it's not.

-- go_dawgs4040

So, Jesus, apparently I can be wrong about all sorts of stuff, but if I love God and love my neighbor, that's all that matters, like it just sums everything up.

This is the kind of feel-goodism that's killing our great churches.

jesus pls help me love peopl like u do

Hey Lord? (Is is okay for me to call you Lord?) I've got a question about this whole fishermen as teacher thing...I mean really, your stories are great, but the net heads don't seem to be getting it.  I mean, granted, the shepherds had the advantage of the heavenly hosts to help their credibility, but I thought the 'this is my son, in whom I'm well pleased' worked a lot better than the fishers of men angle. Anyway, just wanted you to know that the message is clear to us who have sin...btw, we won't be picking up any rocks any time soon. l8r

I get it. Your right there is too much distraction these days and I believe nobody would literally really follow jesus or even take him seriously, especially American society, it's sad really.  Honestly, can anyone say they would get up and follow Jesus and leave everything behind, I hardly doubt it, there is a slim maybe 1% of all that would but that is prob. the most that would really be willing and 1% may even be high for our American (Americanized)Society.

Why are people so scared to follow Jesus? I love my pastor and he's great at doing his job, but we need to follow and love Jesus even more. Filling up your week with church activies isn't gonna cut it. Like horsegirl we need to love like Jesus. Just because someone doesn't believe just exactly like we do doesn't mean we shouldn't love them. We all need to stop being so judgemental and love like Jesus does

As of Dec.31st, 2011: The study about the legalization of marijuana and/or medical marijuana is over, it

has been done, not to the fullest however, but is looks like a good study. I do want to point out one

thing that is not shown in the study. Marijuana has to be taken out of the hand of the dealers. Look at

the dealer as if they were doctors. When you go to the doctors, sometimes they will give you samples to

try and use to see if a medication will work for you. Now look at the dealers, when your children go to

them to get their marijuana, they are exposed to other drugs, which are of the type in which the first

time you use them, your hooked. We are better of having it legalized so it can be controlled like alcohol

and tobacco. Have controlled sales, special taxation and regulated. This will take it out of the hand of

the dealers which means no exposure to other dangerous drugs given as free samples. This takes away the

gateway in many ways. Marijuana is less of a gateway drug than the medical prescriptions in your medicine

cabinet. However alcohol and tobacco are also. We do know it has many medical benefits such as, it can

prevent some cancer cells from forming in the lungs, it’s an antioxidant which gets bad chemicals out of

your body, it can be used in many forms of food as fiber, textiles, paper, fuels, plastic and other

chemicals which can help with epilepsy in children and adults. Our state need jobs, more money to help

economically, farmers with another crop, new fuel for greener living, plastics which are biodegradable,

textiles for new industries, paper for new industries and to help save trees. We should be able to ask

the pharmacy or health care stores for over the counter antioxidants if 18 or 21 years of age. I do

however want to specifically say it has to be taken out of the hands of the dealers, so our children will

not be exposed to the other drugs which do need the criminal laws, lets not forget the drugs which can

cause terrible side effects in your body, that can cause, kidney, liver, and other deadly effects. The

worst of these are in your own medicine cabinet now, if not used correctly or if taken together…eg ( pain

pills and depression drugs which causes serotonin syndrome, blood pressure medicine and station drugs

which causes Statin syndrome ) Did you know that 80% of the doctors do not even know about these things

let alone how to treat them, they just keep giving you more drugs that will cause more problem. So,

Indiana, let us be the 2nd in the union to legalize it and be done with it. Go green, go natural and be

healthy. It’s a win, win, win, win, situation. It will save us million in court cost, criminal

confinement, create jobs, give us fresh air and a healthier way to live. So get the message out!
January 4th 2012: Legislation begins, Febuary 1st, 2012: Deadline for Senate bills to be considered,

Early March 2012: is deadline for House bills to be considered by the Senate and March 14th, 2012: Is

sign or die for this years session. Go to www.in.gov search for, ( Marijuana )

Interesting blog. In reference to the comments about good guys and bad guys...God ask the question if we only love those who love us then what blessing do we expect to receive? Jesus sat the example to show us how to love the sinner and hate the sin. There are NO perfect people except Jesus. If we try we can find fault in everyone we know and if we are really looking for faults if we look in the mirror we won't have time to find anyone elses.
