London: 1890s. An Ideal Husband is a romantic and sentimental comedy about an upstanding politician, Robert Chiltern, who is haunted by his past when a blackmailer, Mrs. Cheveley, threatens to reveal a youthful indiscretion and harm the happy marriage of he and his adoring wife, Gertrude Chiltern. It is up to his wife and his uninspired, but utterly charming, long time friend, Lord Goring, to confront this dilemma, but it could risk Goring's chances to finally win over Robert’s sister, Mabel.
